The second edition of the Rally del Paraguay, the country's round of the World Rally Championship, closed with record attendance and a much larger economic effect than its debut, its organisers said on Monday.1
Executive director César Marsal said more than 270,000 people watched the rally this year. The number of international visitors rose from 51,000 at the first edition to 54,000.1
Where the money went
Organisers estimate the total economic impact at more than US$200 million, an increase of over 50% on last year. Hotels, restaurants, transport and suppliers in the host areas took most of the extra demand.1
The organisation says its aim is to turn the event into a lasting source of investment for the region rather than a once-a-year boost.1
