About us

Paraguay, thread by thread

Short, sourced stories from Paraguay for readers who prefer English.

Ñandutí means “spider web” in Guaraní. It is also the name of the lace that women in Itauguá and across Paraguay make by hand, thread by thread, on a round frame. We borrowed the name because that is how we try to work: many small, careful pieces that together show a picture of the country.

Every morning we read Paraguayan newspapers, official announcements and the programmes of museums, festivals and sports bodies. We choose stories that matter in everyday life, check them against the original source and write them in plain English. Each story ends with the sources we used.

We cover culture, food and farming, festivals and travel, sport and science. We do not cover party politics, elections, courts, crime or conflict.

Ñandutí is published by Lapacho Lane Media LLC, 139 Washington Dr, Denver, CO 80211, United States and is paid for by advertising, which is sold separately from the newsroom under our advertising policy.
